Our Story
Community Connection is a not-for-profit organisation and was established in Townsville in 1992. Daisy Kellie, Sharon Yoxall and Ann Greer realised the need for specialised, individualised and custom designed support for people and their families with disabilities living in the Townsville community.
The trio identified that there were no services available that met the criteria and offered opportunities for people with disabilities and their families to participate in their community and have a good life. Sharon, Ann and Daisy then set about establishing such an organisation, now known as Community Connection, which continues to offer cutting edge services and grow from strength to strength.
We provide a diverse range of support to Individuals and their families throughout the Townsville region Community Connection has developed and refined the true meaning of individualised support.
Whether an Individual requires full time support, or just a little help for a few hours per week, we can assist in providing the level of support required. We listen to Individuals with a disability across all communication means to maximise personal choice and control. We see parents and families as the right and proper advocates for people that are not able to speak for themselves.
The right to a good life.
Community Connection Works Outside the Square
At Community Connection, we believe that living a good life is a right, not a privilege. Our organisation is built on the strong foundation that individuals with a disability, along with their families, deserve the same opportunities, choices, and experiences as anyone else.
To us, a good life goes beyond just meeting basic needs—it means having genuine connections, being valued and respected, and having the freedom to make decisions about how you live each day. It’s about inclusion, independence, and participation in all the ordinary moments that make life meaningful—spending time with friends, contributing to community, enjoying hobbies, and being seen for your strengths and individuality.
We think outside the square to provide flexible, person-directed supports that empower people to shape their own lives. By listening deeply, adapting to unique needs, and building strong community connections, we walk alongside individuals and families as they create the life they envision for themselves.
